Have you ever wondered why your boat doesn’t shine anymore? Do you want to know how to get the oxidation out of your boat? We all want to stand out from the crowd and show off our investments, but no one wants to be embarrassed to show their boat off because of the dull look. In order not to be embarrassed, you need to maintain your boat.
Maintaining your boat includes washing as well as waxing it. Waxing should be done a couple times a year in order to maintain your boat (if you have a colored hull, it needs more attention). Waxing your boat protects the fiberglass from the UV Rays from the sun and also gives your boat a glossy shine. After a while, the sun eats away the wax, causing your boat to be bare and cause oxidation. Think of it like sunscreen on your skin, when you don’t apply enough, you will have sun burn. Oxidation causes your boat to look dull and chalky like the picture above.

When your boat has oxidation, the only way to get that oxidation out is by using compound. Depending on how badly oxidized your boat is, that decides what step process we have to take to get the oxidation out. Usually, we use a two step process, the first step being the compound and the second step the wax. We use electric buffers to get down into the fiberglass and pull the oxidation out. If you boat is badly oxidized, we have to use a three step process, two different compounds, each a different grit, then finish it off with a wax coating.
In order to get the oxidation out of the fiberglass, compound is key. If you want to prevent oxidation, which keeps your resale price higher if your considering to sell it in the future, apply a couple coats of wax a year. It will give your boat a glossy shine and reflection that will give your boat the attention everyone wants!
